Here’s what’s coming up at the Stittsville Legion in the coming weeks…

EUCHRE: On Tuesday, November 28th, Euchre was played at the Stittsville Legion. John Pentol had the most Lone Hands. Theresa Giolway had the Ladies High Score with Doris O’Conner placing second.The Men’s High Score was won by Gary Doe with Davis Faubert as the runner-up. LEGION: Family breakfast, book club coming up at the Stittsville Legion

UPCOMING EVENTS
The next monthly family breakfast open to everyone in the community  will be held on Sunday September 11th from 9 a.m to 12 noon at the Legion Hall for only $8.00 per person. Children under 12 only $6.00.
The Stittsville Legion Book Club is starting back up after a lovely hot summer. The meetings will take place on the Third Monday of every month starting on September 19th at 7:30 p.m. The book for September is “The Little Paris Bookshop” available at Costco.

LEGION: Irish Stew, Lasagna Night, Easter Brunch & more

 On Thursday, March 17th the Legion will be serving Irish Stew from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Starting at 4p.m. “Forever Friends” will be entertaining us for the evening. Open to everyone in the community. Come and have some Irish FUN and LAUGHTER.
On Friday, March 18th  Barb Forbes will be serving Lasagna from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for only $10.00 open to everyone.
On Sunday, March 27th an Easter Brunch will be held at the Legion Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at a cost of $12.00 per person and children under 10 will be only $6.00. Everyone in the community is invited to join this special event.

LEGION: Darts, trip to the slots, more

On Friday, February 26th, Barb Forbes will be serving cabbage rolls from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. come and enjoy.

DARTS: Mixed Trips Tournament will be held on Saturday, February 27th with 3 players per team. The cost will be $30.00 per team and you must pre register for this event being held at the Stittsville Legion. For more information contact Bill Vail at or Tracey Boss at .

The next trip to the Slots at the Rideau Carleton Raceway organized by the 55 Plus Club of the Legion will take place on Wednesday, March 2nd. The bus will leave the Johnny Leroux Stittsville Community Arena at 11:30 a.m. To reserve a seat call Marion Gullock at 613-836-5254

Knitting and Crocheting Club starting at 6:30 p.m. every Monday except for holidays. Lessons are available “FREE” learn how to crochet and/or knit and read patterns. We still continue to support the hospitals by making baby bonnets and pic line covers. If you need more information contact . BOOK CLUB: The next meeting of the book club will be on Tuesday, March 22nd, starting at 7 p.m. at the Legion Hall. The book of the month is “Primates of Park Avenue” by Wednesday Martin. Open to everyone in the community who loves to read.

PRESIDENT MESSAGE: The Stittsville Legion is partnering with BIG BROTHERS and BIG SISTERS Organization by putting a collection clothing bin on our property. This will take place in the next few weeks. This fund raising initative will help support the youth in our community. Please support and bring your good used clothing to the Collection Bin on the Legion Property.

It is with great sadness we have our flag at half-mast due the passing of our comrade Harriet (Hallie) Jennie Todd SLOAN,
C.M., C.D., B.N., Lt Col (Ret’d). Our Sincere Condolences to her family and friends.

For those of you who are not aware we are doing a facelift renovation in the downstairs Lounge and Bar area. Our focus is on air flow, bar, storage, lighting and the leak (when it rains) at bottom of stairs outside the washrooms. On February 13th starting at 6 p.m. A Valentine’s Day Cabaret with the Stittsville Male Chorus, they will sing three times throughout the 3 course dinner with a silent auction going on and then at 9 p.m. we will start music and dance with “Four Way Split” all this at the Stittsville Legion Hall, Main Street Stittsville. Tickets are $25.00 per person. Bring your special person to this wonderful evening.

CHILI COOK OFF RESULTS
Monique Vail came first with Sherry Lalonde placing second. Bev Morley came in third with Cathy Nealson placing fourth.  Most spiciest went to Barb Carr, Meatiest went to Barb Forbes. Congratulation to you all.   Ellen Johnston  who organized this great event would like to thank Shad Qadri, Randall Moore from CHEZ 106 Radio Station and Justin Phillips from the Redblacks Football Team, for judging all the Chili’s.
Any veteran or spouse who would like to speak to the Provincial Service Officer should sign the form at the Legion or phone the Branch Service Officer (Ron Currie) at before February 3rd.  The Provincial Service Officer will be making a visit to the Branch during the week of February 13th. All those who sign up will be notified of the exact date and time by February 8th.

LEGION: New Year’s Eve, January 1 Levee and more

New Year’s Eve: Tickets are now on sale at the Legion Bar. Tickets are $35.00 per person with fun and great dance music  starting at 8 p.m. with “Gib Rozon” Band. A  buffet with bubbly toast at midnight with balloon drop and party favours will be held.
On January 1st the Stittsville Legion  will hold it’s annual LEVEE with  food and entertainment starting at 2 p.m. with “Sands of Time” entertaining. Please join our veterans for a relaxed afternoon of comradeship.
On January 6th the next bus trip to the Slots at the Rideau Carleton Raceway organized by the 55 Plus Club of the Legion. The bus will leave the Johnny Leroux Stittsville Community Arena at 11:30 a.m.  To reserve a seat or for more information call Marion Gullock at .
