Ottawa’s go-kart community comes to Karters’ Korner next weekend

Engines rumble to life and gasoline floats in the air. At the intersection of Huntley and Fallowfield Rd, visitors at Karters’ Korner zig zag at high speeds along one of the main attractions: the go-kart track.

On the weekend of August 6-7, Karters’ Korner will host the second annual Ottawa Mayor’s Cup of Wishes and Capital Karting Grand Prix. Continue reading


Little Free Library opens on Friendly Crescent

Make a left turn from Hartsmere Dr. onto Friendly Crescent and you’ll see the bright yellow picnic table and turquoise mailbox with painted butterflies that are visited by members of the community every day.

A few weeks ago, Amanda Faulkner and her family filled their take-a-book-leave-a-book exchange with over a dozen books in front of their home on 9 Friendly Crescent. Continue reading


Dental hygienist helps patients in the Dominican Republic

Stittsville’s Shannon Helleman (pictured above with a patient) spent a week in the Dominican Republic, but she didn’t go for a vacation. A dental hygienist by profession, Helleman joined Health Teams International, a Christian organization that provides individuals living in poor countries with free healthcare clinics. Last month, she was a part of an 11-person team that worked in the outskirts of Cabarete, Dominican Republic.  Christine Vezarov spoke with her recently about the experience. Continue reading
