The Green Party nominated political veteran Deborah Coyne to run for MP in the new Carleton riding that includes Stittsville.
“I’m honoured to be the Green Party Candidate in Carleton, a riding that traces history back to Confederation,” she said.
Her web site bio says her background includes experience as a lawyer, university professor, constitutional activist, public servant, writer and mother of two children.
She ran for the Liberals in Toronto-Danforth in 2006, and was a candidate for the Liberal party leadership in 2012-2013. She’s now a senior policy advisor to the leader of the Green Party of Canada.
The Greens were the last of the four major parties to announce a candidate for the riding. Their nomination meeting was held at the Stittsville library on Saturday afternoon.

COMING MONDAY: StittsvilleCentral.ca will have a federal election preview for the newly-created Carleton riding, including a profile of the candidates for each of the main parties.
Is this the same Deborah Coyne who had a child fathered by Pierre Trudeau while he was Prime Minister ? If so she is related to Justin Trudeau who is leading the Liberal party.
Pierre Trudeau was not prime minister when his daughter was born. Furthermore, Ms. Coyne is not related to Justin Trudeau as she was never married to Trudeau pere.
The NDP has not announced a candidate yet.
