Here’s a few things that came across our newsdesk this week…

CANDIDATES Q&A

The Stittsville Village Association will hold a Q&A with local provincial candidates at the Stittsville United Church on Sunday, May 20.

The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

NDP CANDIDATE

The Ontario New Democracts finally have a candidate in place for Carleton. Courtney Potter was confirmed Monday by the riding association as being the party’s candidate following a nomination meeting on May 12.

Handout photo.

Potter is a fourth year student at York University, for sociology and labour studies. She lives in Ottawa and is about to begin a summer job for the Canadian department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, according to a press release provided by her campaign. She’s also a licensed paralegal and has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity.

BIZ ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES WEBSITE

The new Stittsville Business Association is now online. The website boasts a business directory, events listings and a member list. Their first event will be a speed-networking evening at Napoli’s on May 28…

GIVE US A SIGN

An email from Deacon Kent Boughton of the Grace Baptist Church:

“If you are travelling between Stittsville and Richmond on Huntley Road, Grace Baptist Church is hoping you will notice its brand new sign. It was just installed by GT Signs on Wednesday 9 May. The sign is based on a new logo that the church adopted last August. The sign has a changeable text field for messages on which Scripture or announcements can be displayed. It should look very good at night brightly lit within by banks of LED lights. BE Electric will be hooking it up to power shortly.”
