Jordan McNichols and her mother, Jan Campbell, the force behind the magical Cupcake Fairies, have delivered hundreds of cupcakes to scores of houses over the past few months.

The idea for the Cupcake Fairies started with a Secret Santa group that originated from the Buy Nothing Stittsville Facebook group. At a reveal party in January to find out who your Secret Santa was, Campbell brought some cupcakes. Campbell is a pastry chef who runs a home-based businesses called Sweet Amelia Bake Shop. McNichols said the cupcakes were a hit at the party, and when people began asking how to get some, she said: “you never know, they might just show up on your doorstep.” Continue reading

PHOTOS: Creative cakes raise over $2,400 for Stittsville Public School

This fundraiser really takes the cake.

This year’s annual Cakewalk at Stittsville Public School raised $2,455 and featured 286 cakes.

Parents donate the cakes (both home-made and store-bought), and then students and staff can buy raffle tickets for a chance to win their favourite creations.

The event is organized by the school’s parent council, and money raised goes towards classroom equipment (they recently helped purchased iPads and projectors for all classrooms, cultural and learning events (like Scientists in School) and other supplies and activities.

Stittsville’s One Eight Bakery gets called for icing

We saw these treats posted on Twitter earlier this week and had to find out more.

They were made by Caitlin McMahon at One Eight Bakery, a new venture based in Stittsville.

“I’m trying to see where it goes through social media,” she tells StittsvilleCentral.ca. “I have always had a passion for baking and friends have told me time and again to start my own baking business so here goes nothing! I am a huge Senators fan so with the up coming playoffs I thought I would try making a Senators cookie. I have a few regular orders to friends and family but am also open to custom orders.”

You can contact Caitlin via oneeightbakery@gmail.com
