Ottawa’s annual Motorcycle Ride for Autism kicks off on July 8 at 9:00am at Brown’s Independent. Mayor Jim Watson will be on hand to see the riders off on a route that will take them through Merrickville, Smith Falls, Perth, Westport Carleton Place, and back to Stittsville.
The event has raised over $60,000 in the last four years to help kids with autism through Quickstart, charitable organization whose mission is to assist children with autism in reaching their full potential by helping the children obtain early intervention, at the first signs of autism. QuickStart raises awareness and initiates programs to cut wait-times, build capacity, and promote improvements in early identification and intervention.

The Ottawa Police Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal collision which occurred at 5:35 pm on October 30, at the intersection of Eagleson and Fernbank Road. The collision involved a red Hyundai Accent driven by a 47 year old male and a Honda motorcycle driven by a 59 year old male. Continue reading

UPDATE (Sept 1): The Ottawa Citizen reports that Aaron Orlik, the driver of the motorcycle, has died.
Paramedics responded to a call for single vehicle collision that occurred on Jinkinson Rd near Hazeldean. The Ottawa Paramedic Service Communications Centre received the call at 1:50pm on Wednesday.
Paramedics treated a male driver of the motorcycle, believed to be in his 40s for traumatic injuries after his motorcycle left the road, ending up in a field. The man was without vital signs at arrival of paramedics and is in critical condition in hospital.
UPDATE: An individual has been charged in relation to this incident.
Emergency crews responded to collision between a motorcycle and a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Abbott Street and Stittsville Main Street on Friday evening. Police say the incident is under investigation.
Penny Horeczy was driving her Toyota Camry west down Abbott Street around 9:00pm, on her way home from a swim class at the GRC. She said she was driving through on a green light switching to yellow and felt a thump. Continue reading
