NOTEBOOK: Revised site plan approved for Stittsville Walk

(FILE PHOTO: Unfinished “Stittsville Walk” condos, March 6, 2016.)

“I suppose the best one can say is that it is no worse than the original proposal.”

That’s the reaction I received today from a long-time Stittsville resident who’s been following the progress — or lack thereof — of the Stittsville Walk condo development at 1491 Stittsville Main Street.  The project has been stalled since late 2013, and only one of the six blocks was ever built.  It remains unoccupied. NOTEBOOK: Stories we’re watching in 2016

I often jokingly refer to Stittsville as “one of Ottawa’s most exciting suburbs”, but there’s actually a lot of truth to that. (Just look at what happened here in 2015 alone.)

We live in one of the fastest-growing wards in the City of Ottawa, and the constant development is a constant source of conflict as well as new people and businesses arriving in our community.

BRADLEY-CRAIG FARM UPDATE
I was part of a small group of residents from Stittsville and beyond who met with Councillor Qadri this week about the Bradley-Craig Farm.

We’ve also started a working group called “Friends of the Bradley-Craig Farm”, including representatives from Heritage Ottawa, the Stittsville Village Association, and the Federation of Community Associations and the Ottawa Farmers’ Market.

The group is developing ideas for how the farm can be repurposed for business or community use, as well as pushing for the City to enforce the property standards bylaw in relation to heritage properties. (The owner is required to maintain the exterior and the structure of the barn and house under the bylaw.)

The city’s Built Heritage Sub Committee will consider a motion to demolish the heritage barn next Thursday, December 10. Councillor Qadri has said that he supports Richcraft’s plan to dismantle the barn and move it to Saunders Farm in Munster. Continue reading

Reverie revived? Stalled condo project could continue later this year

UPDATE: The sale to the new owners closed earlier this summer; they plan to continue the development as per the approved plans, rather than start the approval process from scratch. Building could start up again in the next 6-8 months.

QUICK FACTS

  • Construction on Reverie Quarters has been on hold since late  2013.
  • New owners expected to take over stalled condo project this spring.
  • Two units were sold but both buyers have been refunded.
