Oops! We tore down your heritage farmhouse

“Misunderstanding” was a big hit for the band Genesis in early 1980s. Stittsville was also hit by a misunderstanding in 1985 when a 19th century stone house was “accidentally” knocked down.

In February 1985, a backhoe operator mistakenly tore down the 153-year-old McCurdy house, instead of a shed. Continue reading

Richardson farmhouse to be turned into condo clubhouse

I’ve had a lot of people ask me if I knew what was happening with the old stone house at Terry Fox and Richardson Side Road in Kanata North.

That’s the Richardson farmhouse, perched part-way up the hill, surrounded by new housing.  I heard a few rumours about what the developer might have planned (a lawyer’s office? a private residence?) but recently its future use has been confirmed: a clubhouse for the neighbouring condo development.

Boyd House: The old stone home at 173 Huntmar (Part 1)
