Three great outdoor swimming pools around Stittsville

Amberwood Village Pool (via amberwood.ca)
Amberwood Village Pool (via amberwood.ca)

AMBERWOOD VILLAGE POOL: A heated, saltwater pool, open from mid-May until mid-September.  You’ll either need a pool membership or attend as a guest of a member — so this might be a good time to make friends with someone in Amberwood. Pool memberships are $160 for adults, $65 for youth, or $350 for a family membership (up to 2 adults and 3 kids).    There’s a popular adult aquafit class every weekday morning at 9:00am, and family swim from 12-3pm and 5:30pm-8:00pm daily.

GLEN CAIRN POOL (50 Castlefrank): A City of Ottawa facility, open from mid-June til late August each year.  Besides a very large main pool, there’s also a smaller shallow pool for younger kids. This pool was renovated in the past few years and is one of our family’s favourite spots to cool off on a hot summer day. $1.90 per person when you go as a family.

KATIMAVIK POOL (64 Chimo): Like the Glen Cairn Pool, this is a City of Ottawa facility, located next to Katimavik Elementary School.  A little bit smaller than Glen Cairn, it also features two pools.  It’s surrounded by mature trees so there’s lots of shade.  $1.90 per person when you go as a family.

WINNER: Young Artist of the Month is Brianna Richard

A great big CONGRATULATIONS to 9-year-old Brianna Richard, the winner of our very first Young Artist of the Month contest on StittsvilleCentral.ca.

Brianna lives in Stittsville and attends Grade 4 at École élémentaire catholique Saint-Rémi in Kanata. Her artwork (above) is titled “Summer Rays”, and is an abstract using markers.

The judging was tough! Our panel included a pair of elementary school students who chose Brianna’s art because of her creative use of contrasting colours, and her abstract approach. “Not all art is looking outside and drawing the exact picture,” said one of our judges.

As a prize, Brianna will have her artwork professionally framed by  Walkerworks Picture Framing at the corner of Stittsville Main & Beverly.

Thanks to all of the talented Stittsville artists who entered the contest.  Our judges had a really hard time deciding on a winner! All of the entries are included below.
