Library to name a room in honour of Grace Thompson

(press release)

The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) will be honouring Grace Thompson with a commemorative naming of the meeting room in the Stittsville branch in recognition of her historical significance to the community.

What: Commemorative naming of a room in honour of Grace Thompson
When: Thursday, October 5, 2017, 2:00 p.m.
Where: Stittsville branch of OPL, 1637 Stittsville Main

Committed to her community, Grace was a local historian, author, philanthropist, and an impassioned individual who embraced the beauty of both history and the written word. She was a significantly involved resident in the Stittsville community. She was the first secretary-treasurer of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society, founding member of the Stittsville Women’s Institute, Goulbourn Jubilee Singers, and member of the original steering committee for the formation of the Goulbourn Township Historical Society.

Grace was a chief researcher and writer of the Tweedsmuir History of Stittsville and published several books, which account for much of Stittsville’s history. Grace was one of the first volunteers of the Stittsville Public Library when it opened in 1973.
