Tysen Lefebvre wins Ontario Junior Citizen Award

Stittsville's Tysen Lefebvre travelled to Toronto this week to accept a 2015 Ontario Junior Citizen Award. The 15-year-old was one of twelve Ontario youth to receive the honour, presented by Ontario's Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Stittsville’s Tysen Lefebvre (above, middle row, far right) travelled to Toronto this week to accept a 2015 Ontario Junior Citizen Award.  The 15-year-old was one of twelve Ontario youth to receive the honour, presented by Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell. Here’s what Tysen’s mom Linda told us about the award.

Tysen was one of 12 youth who received the 2015 Ontario Junior Citizen Award. He was the only winner from Eastern Ontario, I believe the rest came from the GTA and further West, except one from Hudson. This is the 35th year they have had these awards.

All the kids were brought to Toronto, had a luncheon and introduction on the 54th Floor of the TD Tower, then brought to the Lieutenant Governor’s to receive the award and for a tour of the building.

The pictures I’ve attached are Tysen with Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell, with him pointing to the names, ages and hometown of the winners (he was very happy to see his hometown was listed as Stittsville, not just Ottawa!).

We were told they were voted on after receiving hundreds of nominees.

The Ontario Junior Citizen Awards are promoted through the 300 member newspapers of the Ontario Community Newspapers Association. Nominations of eligible youth aged six to 17, are received through member community newspapers committed to recognizing the outstanding leaders who are making a difference in their communities. Nominees may be involved in community service; young people who are contributing to their community while living with a physical or psychological limitation; or individuals who have performed acts of heroism or bravery. Candidates are also recognized for being ‘good kids’ who show a commitment to making life better for others. A panel of judges unanimously agreed on the final award recipients.
