Since 2015, Re-Read Used Books has been offering the residents of Stittsville and area some of the best reading material available on any bookshelf. Since their days of opening, changes have been experienced, but none like during this unmatched time.
Like many businesses in Stittsville, Re-Read Used Books has had to quickly modify their daily routine and put in place new processes to assure their customers that the used books and other items they sell are safe. Dean told Stittsville Central that, “all of our donations are wiped down with antibacterial spray. We actually have gone one-step further, as orders are prepared we wipe down all the items again.” They also treat their existing bookshelf inventory in the same manner to ensure safety.
Donations dropped off or picked up, remain in the store vehicle overnight and are sanitized with an antibacterial spray prior to joining the books, games and movies on the shelves to again be available for purchase.
To keep up with their demand for board games, puzzles, DVDs and, of course, books, Re-Read is taking on-line orders and offers curbside pick-up, deliveries and Canada Post shipping. For curbside pickups, Re-Read prepares the order and then sets up a time for pickup to minimize the number of people coming to the store at one time. Re-Read is making contact-free deliveries as they don masks and use hand sanitizer between each delivery to stay safe. For those ordering over $20.00 and residing in Stittsville, Kanata or Richmond, you can have your choices delivered from Tuesday to Friday. On Wednesday, they find themselves delivering to Barrhaven and to Carleton Place on Thursday. They also send orders using Canada Post.
Dean and Dee McIntosh, Fran and especially Garfield, are waiting for the day when Re-Read’s doors are fully open again. With this in mind, they have already prepared for that to happen. They have installed a plexiglass shield at the front counter, floor decals will guide you through the store while physical distancing is respected. Hand sanitizer and disposable gloves will also be available to those who choose to wear them.
Re-Read Used Books is an integral business in our Stittsville community and “are very grateful for all of the community support” during these unusual times for small businesses. We look forward to the reopening of this Stittsville business.
I am a resident of The Manor, a senior independent residence which is part of the Rivera complex on Stittsville Main Street. A great many of us are readers who find themselves without a source of reading material due to lack of mobility and because of Covid-19 and the mandate to stay home. I have raided the bookshelves of my friends , but now due to the lockdown, am unable to find any more used books to continue renewing books set up a small lending library in our foyer. I am hopeful that I can act as a go-between to help obtain books for our seniors to enjoy while housebound. During my walk one day I spotted your website and hope to contact you for an idea of how to remedy the supply of books.
