Parents who want to know what the Stittsville Cooperative Nursery School is all about should attend the upcoming Open House & Registration Day. The Open House is being held on Saturday, April 14 from 9am to 12:30pm at the Nursery School attached to A. Lorne Cassidy Elementary School at 27 Hobin Street, in Stittsville.
The Stittsville Cooperative Nursery School has a long history in the community and provides low child:teacher ratios that ensure each child’s needs are met. The Nursery School aims to provide a stimulating environment in which children can learn and develop at their own pace, leading to more independence socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually. The program focuses on activities that encourage youngsters to experiment freely and creatively. Children at the Nursery School learn to handle themselves in a larger group of peers, take instruction from adults and develop new relationships.
SCNS prides itself on preparing children for Kindergarten in several ways. Children learn to be separated from their parents, develop independence and confidence in an environment outside the home. At Nursery School children learn to how to cooperate, take turns, communicate their needs and feelings in an appropriate way while socializing and be part of a group. This sets them up for success as they move onto kindergarten where their academic growth begins.
The Stittsville Cooperative Nursery School has been serving the Stittsville community since 1971, founded by a group of parents interested in providing a pre-school experience for their children. Over the years, the school has been relocated a couple of times as it out grew smaller spaces. In 1990, the Ottawa Carleton District School Board approached the nursery school and built the space specifically for the nursery school to use.
As a licensed nursery school, the Stittsville Cooperative Nursery School is a parent co-operative administered by an elected executive committee of volunteer parent members. The Executive manages the facilities, hires qualified staff and handles the business of the operation. The program is enhanced by Parents who support the teachers in the classroom on a rotational basis and serve on various committees that help the school run smoothly. As all not-for-profit organizations do, families are provided a lot of opportunities to give back and fundraise so the school can continue to be an affordable pre-school option for families.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join our Nursery School family by coming to the Annual Open House & Registration Day! This will be a great chance for you to meet the teachers and some current families, tour the facility, see what the programs for 2 & 3 year olds have to offer and register for September 2018 enrolment. Current and alumni families can pre-register between April 9th-13th.
