Arts in the Park – annual celebration of everything arts is taking place this weekend in Stittsville

The Stittsville Village Association has hosted Arts in the Park for the past six years. Doug Sutherland has been the principle planner during this time. Prior to that, Teresa Qadri was responsible, along with her team of volunteers.

With the weather finally co-operating, this year promises to be the largest celebration of artists, authors, artisans, local musicians and so much more brought together in one location — Stittsville’s Village Square Park (Main Street at Abbott). It all starts at 11:00 a.m. and runs until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9th.

There will be over 100 vendors exhibiting their artistic creations. In all, Doug tells me that there will be 20 authors, 20-30 artists, with the balance made up of local artisans displaying their eclectic mix of pottery, weaving and clothing – all available for sale. From 12-2pm, under the gazebo, U-Rock Music School will be providing entertainment from their up and rising stars for your enjoyment. Hungry? Culinary specialists will be on hand to satisfy your every taste bud. Eldervews will be there providing a comfy bench for elders who need some respite to rest and chat. The Barn will be holding an outdoor market with lots of fresh produce and even more vendors.

Doug Sutherland puts his heart and soul into this event and every year he surpasses the previous year’s success. The first year Doug took up the reins to organize Arts in the Park, he reminisced, “I started small, but wanted to make it more of an event and started contacting local artists to grow the event”. He has certainly achieved this goal.

Doug wants to “give the opportunity for creative people to come together to expose their talents and be able to sell their pieces”. “If the Park is full – I’m happy”.

Join in the celebration — come out and enjoy a day of cultural appreciation in our community.
