Stittsville’s own Anjali Patil is at it again.

The talented Indian Kathak dancer (pictured at top) has organized the 12th annual Ahorha Fest, a celebration of the arts of India in Canada.

This year, for the first time and in honour of Canada 150, the event will be bilingual, making it the first bilingual festival of it’s kind in Canada.

“All the materials are in both official languages,” said Patil. “And we have a very dynamic MC who will announce in both languages. It’s really accessible in both languages.”

The festival, which is held at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans on August 12 -13, is easy to access.

“The show will go on rain or shine,” said Patil. “We are indoors so there is comfortable seating, air conditioning and free parking.”

In addition to a great indoor venue, all of the workshops and performances are free.

“There is something for everyone,” said Patil. “ Yoga, just bring your mat. Bollywood dance, with an excellent teacher. Folk dance, music. This is your chance!”

Some workshops are full but e-mail to find out and to reserve your spot. Same goes for the performances. With 200 seats available per show, it is important to book ahead.

Performers this year are incredibly dynamic including dancers, musicians and singers. One of the singers was named a rising star MTV India.

“Most important to me, my guru, is a very respected person in dance across the world is coming as a revered guest and to give a workshop,” said Patil.

A lot of effort has gone into making this Aroha Fest extra special.

“It brings me a lot of joy to be an active part of Canada 150,” said Patil.

And the event wouldn’t be happening without the support of the community and sponsors.

“Shad has always been so supportive of all our initiatives,” said Patil. “The community values this, sponsors value this. It’s really quite amazing.”

Sponsors this year include the City of Ottawa, Canada 150, Air Canada and many more.
