DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Soc
 iety is on Tuesday\, October 18th and will be held at the Pretty Street Co
 mmunity Centre (2 Pretty Street) at 7:30 pm.\nThis month’s speaker is Ma
 ster Gardener Nancy McDonald who will be presenting her talk\, “Fall Fin
 al Garden Fling: Activities to Beautify\, Nourish and Protect Your Garden.
 ”\nThis talk will break down those important fall activities listed in t
 he Master Gardener Garden Calendar for September and October: What to plan
 t\, store\, move or divide\; the importance of topdressing\; garden cleanu
 p while leaving some seed heads for overwintering birds and winter interes
 t. Also\, what and how to winter protect will be discussed. There is still
  some fun to be had in the garden (along with some work)\, all of which wi
 ll improve your garden for next year.\nNancy McDonald grew up on a farm in
  PEI and learned the practical aspects of gardening from her parents. Her 
 grandmother’s beautiful mixed garden (aided by her grandfather’s beehi
 ves) cultivated her love of flowers. After 42 years of a fulfilling nursin
 g career\, Nancy looked forward  to retirement and volunteer opportunitie
 s. She has been a member of the Master Gardeners of Ottawa Carleton for 12
  years. She is also a member of Friends of the Farm and the Ottawa Horticu
 ltural Society. Nancy enjoys her small suburban garden and the birds\, bee
 s and butterflies that visit. She also enjoys making flavourful recipes in
  her kitchen using herbs and edible flowers from her garden.\nAlthough Cov
 id-19 restrictions are no longer in place\, we would respectfully request 
 that you wear a mask during the meeting.\nIf you are not a member and woul
 d like to attend free as a one-time guest\, or if you would like to become

 membership is $15 per person or $25 per family. Please join us for what is
  sure to be an informative evening.
