SUMMARY:SGHS Meeting: Promising You a Rose Garden with Master Gardener Judi
 th Cox
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Soc
iety is on Tuesday\, May 16th. The meeting will be held in person at the J
ohnny Leroux Community Arena (second floor)\, 10 Warner-Colpitts Lane\, St
ittsville\, at 7:30 pm. If you prefer to attend the meeting on Zoom\, plea
se send a request a few days before to sghorticultural@gmail.com and the Z
oom link will be sent to you. \nTonight’s topic\, Promising You a Rose G
arden\, is presented by Master Gardener Judith Cox.\nPeople often avoid gr
owing roses because they think roses are too difficult. Delicate tea rose
s\, or roses grafted onto stock from Texas\, are really difficult to grow
in our colder gardens. Hardy roses do very well! They are beautiful\, ofte
n highly scented\, and bred specifically to survive in our climate. You ca
n have roses in your garden and enjoy their beauty for years. Judith will
discuss what roses to look for\, pests and problems\, and how to maintain
your rose garden.\nJudith Cox is a Master Gardener and\, since 2020\, has
been president of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society. She has
always loved working with plants\, and enjoys sharing that love with othe
rs. After working for 15 years as a gardener\, she now works as a garden c
onsultant during the growing season and volunteers at Master Gardener advi
ce clinics at local farmer’s markets. During the winter Judith gives lec
tures on a variety of gardening subjects at local horticultural societies\
, writes for local magazines and publications\, and has a small business s
elling her watercolour/pen and ink cards at www.lapisdragonarts.com. Herit
age vegetables are a favourite of Judith’s\, along with roses\, herbs\,
and fairy gardens.\nYou are welcome to join us. If you are not a member an
d would like to attend free as a one-time guest\, or if you would like to
become a member\, please send an email to sghorticultural@gmail.com. The a
nnual membership is $15 per person or $25 per family. Wearing a mask is op
 tional during the meeting.
