A couple of years ago one of our music nights was in jeopardy when a group had to cancel, so at very short notice a young man came in and provided great entertainment for the assembled audience. This week he is returning to Gaia Java for a planned show in his own right! Michael Allen grew up in Ottawa and is currently helping part-time at a daycare while he is working on a parallel development of his passion for music. He is aiming towards the possibility of a career in music and clearly has a basis of talent needed to motivate that direction.

Michael describes his type of music as ‘folk/pop’ and with his guitar he delivers a variety of styles ranging from Beatles’ cover songs to James Taylor (Trivia detail: James Taylor’s first album on the Beatles’ Apple label was produced by Peter Asher, who was the brother of Paul McCartney’s girlfriend Jane Asher at that time!).  Michael also does versions of songs by artists such as Johnny Cash, Michael Buble, and harmony group ‘The Drifters’, (who popularised ‘Under The Boardwalk’). So you have a great excuse to come along and relax for an evening as you listen to Mike’s versatile and talented delivery.

The music nights start at 7pm, and as usual there is no charge, but as usual we do have a ‘jar’ for donations to support the musicians, and we hope that you will buy a drink or two (and maybe something tasty to eat!)
SATURDAY, December 12 at Gaia Java
Saturday is shaping up to be a busy day in the shop – in the morning the Stittsville Rotary Film Festival will be having a second round of selling passes to the great films they have lined up for early next year (9:30-12 noon).

Then from 1-4pm local Music School West End Music  is bringing in students from their various music programs to give a recital of their pieces – so expect some enthusiastic talent and some timely Christmas Music to get you in the mood!

As some of you know we are working hard to try and see if the shop can stay open next year – thanks so much for your expressions of support – we live in a great community! See more details about upcoming events at www.gaiajava.ca where you can also see about tickets we are selling for concerts by local groups over the next few weeks.

The talented Otto Cepella, followed by the singers of Harmonic Generation provided super music last Friday, and also raised a wonderful $268.40 for the Starfish Children’s Foster Home in China!

Michael Allen is at Gaia Java on Stittsville Main Street on Friday, December 11 at 7:00pm.  No charge, but donations for the musicians are appreciated!
