On Thursday night at the Stittsville Village Association’s AGM, the group said “thank you” to an incredibly deserving Stittsville volunteer, Hélène Rivest.

This year, the SVA launched a new volunteer award to recognize individuals who’ve made a positive impact in our community. Volunteers are a vital component to life in our community and they are often the unsung heroes who put in countless hours behind the scenes to make things happen.

Rivest is the inaugural recipient. Some of the organizations she has volunteered for include: The Goulbourn Museum, the Stittsville Food Bank, the Stittsville Village Association, the Goulbourn Township Historical Society, the Richmond Agricultural Society, the Rotary Club, the Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society, the Royal Canadian Legion, Ottawa Race Weekend and Big Sisters, and the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

One cause that may be the closest to her heart is the Kidney Foundation of Canada. She was able to donate her kidney to a complete stranger two years ago, and has continued raising money for the cause through local fundraising activities like the annual Kidney Walk here in Stittsville.

As part of her award, the SVA will be making a donation in her name to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Congratulations and thank you Hélène!
