LET THERE BE LIGHTS: Traffic lights activated at Huntmar and Maple Grove

The black giftwrap was removed and the traffic lights at Huntmar and Maple Grove were (finally) activated today.

Councillor Shad Qadri was on hand along with staff from the city’s traffic department, and the lights were activated shortly after the morning commute.

Previously, traffic volume coupled with the inability of many drivers to properly navigate a four-way stop made for a very frustrating and dangerous situation for drivers and pedestrians.

Funding for the lights was included in this year’s city budget.  The signals are considered a temporary solution until Huntmar is eventually widened a few years from now.

Within a few hours of the lights being activated, drivers were already complaining on social media about the lack of an advance left-turn green signal.

  1. “…coupled with the inability of many drivers to properly navigate a four-way stop ”

Yeah. Or the wherewithal to even stop at all.

I guess when you’re pondering whether avocados are on sale at Food Basics, the whole stop sign thing ceases to exist for you.
