UPDATE: An individual has been charged in relation to this incident.
Emergency crews responded to collision between a motorcycle and a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Abbott Street and Stittsville Main Street on Friday evening. Police say the incident is under investigation.
Penny Horeczy was driving her Toyota Camry west down Abbott Street around 9:00pm, on her way home from a swim class at the GRC. She said she was driving through on a green light switching to yellow and felt a thump.
She moved over to the side and that’s when she noticed pieces of a blue Yamaha motorcycle.
“I thought, my God, someone was killed,” she says.
She says a woman nearby called 911, and witnesses told her they saw bikes street racing.
“I guess one of them zipped around me and the other one wasn’t quick enough and hit me in my back quarter panel. It’s amazing he’s alive,” she said.
“This fellow, the witneess said, stopped, went back, and grabbed his plate off the motorcycle and jumped on the other motorcycle.”
Horeczy wasn’t injured, and is hoping her car isn’t a write-off. She says she’s thankful for the support from neighbours and witnesses who came to help.
“I was overwhelmed, but I’m just so happy that no-one was killed.”
Police arrived on the scene to find a wrecked motorcycle with no driver in sight. Paramedics say they weren’t involved. Police are now trying to find the owner of the motorcycle.
The scene was clear as of about 11:00pm.
