The City has received a site plan control application for a one-storey addition to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice on McCurdy Drive (at the top of the hill on Maple Grove) in Kanata.
“The applicant is proposing to construct a one-storey addition to an existing Day Hospice to provide a full time Hospice Facility. The addition will extend southeast from the current structure, and will contain 12 bedrooms, as well as amenity and office space, and will have a gross floor area of approximately 1,500 square metres. A total of 40 parking spaces will be provided, and the site will have access off of McCurdy Drive as well as Maple Grove Road.”

Part of Hospice Care Ottawa, the centre currently offers day programming for people with long-term illnesses. The facility is funded 55% through government funds and the rest through fundraising.
Previously, the building and land belonged to Trinity Presbyterian Church. Their congregation recently opened a new building on Richardson Side Road, just west of Huntmar.
