January 12 will see live online children’s programming returning to the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) with something for every kid! Library staff say, “There is no shortage of great activities for kids this winter!” They have put together a ton of activities sure to “capture your kids’ interest, awaken their curiosity and desire to learn, and fill them with the joy of discovery”.

So, parents and teachers, mark your calendars now! With activities for all ages, here is what they have lined up:

  • It is time for stories, songs and nursery rhymes! Kids under 6 will be thrilled to take a break from kindergarten or daycare to dive into the world of imagination through stories and songs and make new friends along the way. No registration is necessary for our online story time, which is offered in English, French, and bilingually. Visit the OPL website to join in the fun!
  • Parent-Baby Connections: New baby in the family? During these long, cozy days cuddled up at home with your new arrival, it can be nice to vary your daily routine and spend some time with other new parents. You will have a chance to chat with other parents and learn from each other, and the OPL’s children’s specialists will be on hand to take your questions. A great way to make new connections and share a laugh, these sessions will be offered in English and in French and are just a click away!
  • Interactive coding workshops: The Library has a lot in stock for the older siblings too! Kids aged 8 to 12 who are into computers can sign up now for coding workshops offered in English and in French by the University of Ottawa Mobile Maker team. They will learn basic coding concepts with virtual Micro:Bits and Scratch.
  • Mini D&D CampaignFor a little more action and competition, the 8 to 12 age group can join in for a mini Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Sessions are limited to five participants, and participants must be available for four workshops on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm The first session will run from January 13 to February 3, and the second session from February 10 to March 3. See you there!

Another round of fun for all ages awaits, even on these cold winter days! For more information on these programs, visit BiblioOttawaLibrary.ca
