July 27th was an extremely hot day, but a good crowd came out to celebrate the important milestone of the 50 year anniversary for the Stittsville Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 618.
The official ceremonies began with Legion President, Judy Campbell, welcoming the audience. An honour guard introduced the Executive and members along with the bagpipes playing in the background. Pierre Poilievre, federal Member of Parliament for Carleton presented a certificate; as did Goldie Gharmari, Member of Provincial Parliament; Councillor Glen Gower of Ward 6 said a few words. With the ceremonies over and people mingling, Chris Rodgers (federal Liberal candidate) serenaded the group with a few songs.
If you were not able to attend, here are some photos to enjoy. You might even remember some of the old newspaper clippings and people in the photos on display at the festivities.
It was a day of celebration for the Legion and its history here in Stittsville — our community is fortunate to have such an institution in our presence.
