High gusts of wind and torrential downpours hit Stittsville around 6:00pm on Sunday evening, cutting power to over 10,000 homes. About 20 minutes later, Environment Canada issued a wind warning for gusts up to 100km/h, and a gust of 97km/h was reported at the Ottawa Airport – the highest recorded wind speed in 20 years. Here are some of your photos from during and after the event.

Mike Alexander posted this pic on Facebook: “Anyone want a REALLY big Christmas tree? Come get it!” It clipped the corner of his garage but didn’t cause any serious damage. It also missed his dad’s truck parked in the driveway.
Some restaurants shut down but Kungfu Bistro stayed open. “Doing everything by candlelight, and by cell phone. Collect money the old-fashioned way,” said owner Margarita Chen. “I’m writing out the Visas and the Mastercard numbers on those slips that we used to use back 20 years ago. Cooking by candlelight good thing we have gas! Customers are waiting in the dark and because we don’t have our system up we are pricing everything by hand! We had to stop taking orders after a while… got harder to keep up cooking in the dark.”
