Santa’s Seconds Charity event a great success

Stittsville Public School was one busy place on Friday as many came out to support the school for their Santa’s Seconds Charity event. Everything was on sale for $1.00 (yes you read right!). The sale also gives students the opportunity to purchase Christmas presents for their parents and, for an additional 50 cents, have them gift-wrapped.

“The event has taken place for 7 years” said teacher, Natalie Tessier. The event is organized by Tessier and her team of volunteers made up of students, teachers and parents. Donations for the event come from many of the parents. You can get in touch with Natalie Tessier at Stittsville Public should you wish to donate to next year’s event.

Games, books, Christmas related items, CDs, movies, kitchen utensils and an eclectic variety of other items were available for sale. Anything that isn’t sold at the sale is donated by the school to Value Village.

Natalie informed me that “we raised just over $2800!!! The funds will be divided between The Kanata Food Cupboard; Ottawa Community Foundation (provides support to disadvantaged families); and a sister school that is within the Ottawa-Carleton Public School Board”. This year the amount raised has surpassed all previous years.

I think the students, teachers and parents should be extremely proud of what this event has accomplished over the years. Well done to everyone who participated!
