The Starlight Synchronized Skating team is home from Waterloo, Ontario where they competed in the National Championships last weekend. Although the team didn’t medal, they certainly put on a terrific performance that came from each skater’s heart. The team actually achieved their best personal score ever. Heidi Pinsent commented, “the rink was really big and they pushed through their nerves to compete. It was a fantastic weekend packed with memories”.
Other teams extended good luck wishes in cards they had made for the Starlight team. While there, many new friends were made with members of teams with whom they have competed. When not competing, they were in the stands cheering on the various team and displaying the flag of Ottawa that Councillor Glen Gower, Ward 6 Stittsville, had given them as a gift.
It must be a honour for this young team representing the Ottawa area to make it to the National competition for the first time in 15 years.
On March 1 & 2, the Starlight team are competing in the Synchro Series – Synchro Skate for Skate Ontario. This event is taking place at the Kanata Recreation Complex, just down the road from Stittsville. Should you wish to cheer for and see the Starlight Synchronized Skating Team perform live in this competition, they are scheduled to skate at 8:25 on Friday evening and at 9:50 on Saturday morning.
Before departing Waterloo, one last photo was taken before boarding their bus for Stittsville – the team with their wee mascot and the Ottawa flag!
