Stittsville events starting today – a family fun day big event tomorrow at Jo-Jo’s Pizza

Don’t know what to have for supper tonight? Decision made! Stittsville Childcare Centre is hosting their 12th annual charitable BBQ for Cancer Research from 5:00-7:30pm at 1488 Main Street (across from The Legion and beside Re-Read Used Books). There will be raffle prizes, face painting, a fish pond and cupcake sale. Come out and support a good cause.

What are you doing on Saturday? Hope it includes participating the the Jo-Jo’s Pizza Family Fun Day happening from 11:00am – 2:00pm on Stittsville Main Street! This annual event is not to be missed and includes so many activities thanks to contributions from our community. You can dunk some local personalities in the ‘dunk tank’ all for charity; enjoy the bouncy rides; meet a mermaid; Nxt Generation Dance will be performing some lively dance moves; storm troopers are expected to land; and don’t forget to get the kids to plant their sunflower seeds in the Community Garden behind the pizza shop. Can you believe this is all free!! June 22nd is the first day of the Ottawa West Arts Association ‘Interpretations Exhibition’ art installation at the Cardel-Rec Goulbourn complex. The exhibit will be running until August 23rd. Take some time to admire the creations of our local artists. Don’t forget to fill out a People’s Choice Ballot for your favourite pieces while you are there.

Do you like cars? The Ottawa Jaguar Club will be displaying autos at the Hazeldean Gardens Retirement Residence from 11:00am – 2:00pm on June 22. There will be a complimentary BBQ that you can enjoy as you walk through the parking lot exhibit and reminisce about these high performance vehicles that once travelled our roads regularly — like the Camaro, Thunderbird, Corvette, Firebird and of course, the Jaguar.

The Friendship Club is holding their 2nd Annual Golf Tournament at the Madawaska Golf Club on June 22nd. Shot gun start is at 9:30am. Dave Kuhnle, owner and operator of Nepean Electric founded the Motorcycle Ride for Autism (Ottawa) fundraising road ride for the sake of his grandchildren. The Ride is taking place on June 22. It departs from Brown’s Your Independent Grocer at 11:00 am and returns at 2:00 pm. So if you hear the rumble, you’ll know it is all for another great cause.

Stittsville’s U-Rock’s 16th Annual Summer Rock Show & MARS Awards are taking place at the Brass Monkey, 250A Greenbank Road. The show starts at 2:00pm sharp. The price is $20 per adult. This venue offers a fantastic rock stage with lights and all the effects of a true rock concert. Food and drinks available. Seating is first come first served. Reserved seating at the front of the stage is for performing students only.

CHEO’s Teddy Bear Picnic takes place on June 22nd starting with a pancake breakfast at 8:00am at Rideau Hall.

Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival – all weekend – Mooney’s Bay.

The Ottawa Jazz Festival will have some fabulous entertainment all week starting June 21st until July 1st.

Market at the Barn – June 23 at Village Square Park from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Lots of veggies and vendors to choose from. Support our local farmers and vendors.

June 26 sees St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (on Mulkins Crescent off of Main Street) holding their Annual Strawberry Supper. There will be 3 sittings — 4:00pm, 5:30pm and 7:00pm as well as take out. Ticket prices are: Adults – $17.00, Children 6-12 – $7.00, Children 5 and under free. On Thursday, June 27 from 6:45 pm – 8:00 pm, you can meet your Local Author/Writer at the Stittsville Public Library. The Stittsville Creative Writing Group are inviting residents to celebrate the release of the group’s third anthology: Creative Musings 2019. There will be readings from the anthology as well as brief discussion.

Now we’re getting ahead of ourselves, but don’t forget next Monday is July 1st and what does that mean – Canada Day in Stittsville!! More details will follow later this week.
