Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society – final meeting of the season

How appropriate that the Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society (SGHS) will be holding their final meeting of the season during ‘Ottawa Garden Days’. The meeting on Tuesday, June 18 will take place at the Pretty Street Community Centre with a start time of 7:30 p.m.

This final meeting, before the Society breaks for summer, will host guest speakers – Master Gardener Rebecca Last and Chef Richard Guenette. The topic for the meeting will be Culinary Herbs and Preserving the Harvest with a cooking and tasting demonstration. This should be a fun presentation so invite a friend, neighbour or family member. Guests are always free!

Show off your favourite blooms at this final meeting. Bring along a few flowers or edibles of your favourite plant to share with our members. There will be tables ready to place your container of blooms, edibles or both so you can display your pride and joy. Place a note in front of the container with your name and plant’s name so they can be discussed during break. If you have extra seeds to share, bring those along as well. Seeing the colour and joy of your selections should inspire us all and we can do a harvest show in September.

The SGHS is holding it’s annual Garden Tour on Saturday, July 13 – tickets at a cost of $10 will be available at the meeting. There will be eight gardens visited during the day. If you are a non-member of SGHS, and purchase a tour ticket, the full amount will be applied to a membership fee of $15. Ritchie’s locations in both Stittsville and Richmond will also have tickets available for sale.

Membership to the SGHS is $15 per year for an individual and $25 for a family. Contact sghorticultural@gmail.com to find out more or if you have any questions.

Until meetings resume on September 17th – have a plentiful summer of gardening!
