Jackie Connors was happy to share how the Stittsville Public School helped out the Stittsville Food Bank over the past few months.
COVID-19 has wreaked a lot of havoc on people and businesses. One of the hardest hit has been food banks. During this time, more and more people have come to rely on food banks for help, and the food bank has felt this pressure. Recognizing this and wondering how to help the community, Stittsville Public School Parent Council and parents found a way to do our part in three different ways.
First, Stittsville Public Parent Council donated $500.
Second, the closing of school meant the cancelling of food programs. SPS parents offered to donate their refunds directly to the Stittsville Food Bank. This totaled $7741. Thank you to Shannon Helleman, Food Coordinator for SPS Parent Council, for organizing these refunds.
Third, SPS holds an annual Cake Walk when students bake goodies and then buy tickets in hopes of bringing home one of these delicious treats. Thanks to the big hearts of two of our Parent Council members, Kim Medaglia and Kristin Harcoff, a Virtual Cake Walk was held instead of the normal Cake Walk. The students baked and then could (with their parents’ help) donate the amount they would normally spend on tickets to the Stittsville Food Bank. $330 was raised! The students and parents submitted pictures and a slideshow was put together for the students showing all their fine baking. Great job SPS students!
This came to a grand total of $8571!!
I am so proud to be part of this community. It was an absolute privilege to see the generosity and spirit of SPS parents and students coming together to help the StittsvilleFood Bank!
