Sultan Farm Sanctuary – tour the sunflowers and support the animals

A drive down Flewellyn Road in the past week will have treated you to the sight of 8 acres of beautiful sunflowers growing in the front field of Sultan Farm Sanctuary. It brings me such joy to look out our windows and view this sea of yellow!

We purchased our home 3 years ago, with the dream of returning the property to a working farm. This year marked the first time we have planted a crop and the sense of accomplishment cannot be overstated. We bought non-functioning farm equipment, which my handy husband fixed and used to prepare land that had lain fallow for years. Hours and hours of labour and love went into the sowing of these sunflower seeds.

Ultimately the plan is to harvest the seeds and process them into oil. The process of harvesting will begin in about a month.

In the meantime, in support of Sultan Farm Sanctuary, we would like to open our field of flowers to the community, inviting you to enjoy this loveliness while it lasts (which should be for a period of about three weeks from today). Those interested are invited to walk our property to view the flowers, take a photo, and leave a donation for the animals. Please feel free to take a flower with you when you go.

There will be signs indicating where parking is available, as well as a marked path through the field. We’ve included some facts about sunflowers as well as other farm-tidbits, to make the experience even more meaningful.

Sultan Farm Sanctuary is a donation-driven family-run organization, inspired by the desire to provide safe homes for animals in need. Sultan Sanctuary Farm is located at 8520 Flewellyn Road, Ashton, Ontario. More information, including contact details, can be found at www.sultanfarmsanctuary.com.
