Again this week we have another talented local singer/songwriter: Ron Mills.  Ron’s songs are a blend of traditional folk, old country, blues and storytelling music that reflects his Northern Ontarioupbringing. When asked about his song writing and guitar playing style Ron cites artists ranging from John Prine or Steve Earle to blues greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan as his main influences.

We are so lucky to live in a region where there are many amazing musical artists. Even at Lynne’s fantastic performance last Friday there were several other past and future performers in the audience, sharing their appreciation of the music provided. I am constantly blown away by the generosity of people willing to contribute their time and talent to make these Friday nights such fun events.

Add to these performers some of the ‘behind the scenes’ elements such as the indefatigable Sjef Frenken who moves from venue to venue spotting the talent and recommending them to new locations, people like Tony Copple at CKCU who plays many of them on his weekly radio show. Another great feature of the Friday nights is the encouraging audience who turn out rain or snow or shine and give our singers a reason to be there (as well as a few much-appreciated bucks in the ‘musician’s contributions jug’) – thank you for being there and being generous!

See more details at www.gaiajava.ca where you can also review the listing of upcoming music night performers over the next month or so – everything from University students to seasoned professionals who are willing to come and share their talents with you.
