Stittsville residents look forward to the annual plant sale held by the Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society (SGHS) at Bradley’s Insurance. This year is no different, well perhaps. Due to the pandemic, the usual sale won’t be taking place, but the organization is selling plants virtually. They have over 300 species donated by society members to choose from and they need to be cleared out. Knowing that these plants are grown locally here in our backyards, you can be assured that they will grow well in your garden.
The sale opens to the public on May 31 and will continue until all 300 plants are sold. You can find a full list of the plants available for sale and pick-up at the SGHS Facebook page here. There are also links to each species being sold. Check the list often as it is updated with more plants being donated from members as they harvest their gardens.
The prices are very reasonable with one plant for $2.00, three plants for $5.00 and seven plants for $10.00 and vary in size from small, medium and large depending on availability and plant species.
Plants can be purchased by email (see ordering directions below) and picked up at the curb locally in Stittsville. You will be given the pick-up address when your order is processed. Sorry – no drop-ins. To ensure social distancing and for everyone’s convenience, payment is by email transfer only, with a cheque accepted if you are absolutely unable to use this method. See the ordering instructions below.
Happy gardening and planting!
Ordering Instructions:
Email Arlene at (sghsplantsale@gmail.com) indicating the type and number of plants that you want, and you will receive an email back arranging for e-transfer payment and curb-side pick-up. Plants are available as of May 31 and will continue to be available until all plants are sold.
If you need advice or have questions about a particular plant on the list, feel free to use this email address. Arlene will be glad to help you, and if she can’t, she has access to the society’s master gardeners to pass on their wisdom.
If the plant(s) you are interested in are sold out upon receipt of your email, a brief return email will be sent to let you know they are no longer available. Otherwise, expect an email with directions for payment and where to go to pick-up.
