While our neighbours in Kanata North and West Carleton are dealing with a widespread power outage tonight, so far Stittsville has been spared.
Heavy winds have toppled fences and sent bbq covers and blue bins flying everywhere. The biggest damage we’ve heard about so far is to the Mattress Mart sign in Kanata South. Yikes! Hope there was something there to, um, cushion the landing.
The West Ottawa Soccer Club cancelled all of this evening’s practices at the domes on Richardson Side Road as a precaution due to heavy winds.
Just got this pic from my sister. The large lit sign at McDonalds/Mattress Mart at Terry Fox blew over. pic.twitter.com/C25oiMpgq4

Crews continue to deal with 60 to 80 km winds. Fortunately, they are expected to drop to 30 km by 11pm. We thank you for your patience as crews continue the restoration efforts. Treat downed power lines as live and dangerous. Stay 10 meters away and call 911 immediately. #SafetyFirst #ottnews pic.twitter.com/GiNVK3h58Q

When traffic signals are out, always treat intersection as a 4-way stop.
Please drive carefully. #SafetyFirst
