Traffic turmoil tomorrow

Prepare yourself for what could be a long commute to and from work on February 19 and again on February 20.

You may have heard that there is a long convoy of 100 or more trucks heading to Ottawa. The “United We Roll Convoy” with trucks from both Western and Eastern Canada are heading to Parliament Hill to show their support of oil pipeline use. The convoy is expected to hit Ottawa between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m.

Because of this event, OC Transpo has notified riders to expect delays and that some route changes may occur. It will be hard to know specifically how OC Transpo will be affected at this time, as the convoy organizers have not divulged the route they will take to ride into Ottawa. It is known that they will be heading East as the convoy is departing from Arnprior, Ontario in the morning.

For those who work downtown, Wellington Street will be closed between Elgin and Kent Streets to allow the convoy to park their semis. Anyone who needs to take OC Route #s 9, 11, 12 and 18 should note that they have been moved to Queen Street. The map below details what bus stops are affected.

There may be other disruptions to traffic and bus routes as the day progresses. These will be in effect for both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Needless to say, give yourself plenty of time whether driving or taking the bus.
