U-Rock Music School thanks community and so much more

Twenty-three years ago, Stittsville residents Cathy Hallessey and Brian Brodersen had an idea – to start a local music school and formed U-Rock Music School. They are a talented musical couple who have proven themselves a success in our community and beyond.

They now want to show their thanks. They will provide two deserving children, aged 7-18, free lessons this summer for four weeks. Through U-Rock’s MUSIC ROX Fund, these talented children will be given the opportunity to expand on their musical abilities. Through the years, Cathy and Brian have always found a way to give back to the community and provide musical leadership to our youth.

The time, commitment and pride in their students is obvious with the school being recognized with many awards. Just in 2018-19, the school received five —

  • 2019 “Top 3 in Ottawa” Award (the only music school in this award)
  • 2018 “Canadian kids activities award” top 10 Business in Ottawa for children
  • 2018 Top Choice Award Finalist for Ottawa
  • 2018 West Ottawa Board of Trade Business excellence award finalist Small Business
  • 2018 Stittsville Business Appreciation Award finalist

The school holds open mics and concerts throughout the year giving the kids an opportunity to perform in public and get their names and talents known.

Something new this summer, is the U-Rock Band Camp to be held in July during two different weeks. It is for kids aged 9-16 who are up and coming musicians.  Each Camp lasts for one week and at the end will be featured in a professional music video as well as headline their own show. Visit U-Rock’s web site to find out more and to register.

If you know a child who would be deserving to receive FREE music lessons for four weeks in July, you can contact U-Rock to submit their name at 613-457-5064 or visit their website to learn more about this and many other programs offered: www.u-rockschool.com
