I would like to introduce you to a very sweet and affectionate five year old boy living in West Carleton. Liam McKnight has a beautiful smile, enjoys playing with his big sisters, loves Toy Story and his kisses are infectious.

At 9 months of age Liam had his first seizure and has suffered through thousands of seizures since that day. Liam cluster seizures, meaning he seizes over and over again without ever regaining consciousness.

This has resulted in numerous 911 calls, air and ground ambulance trips, and extended hospital stays. Liam has been diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome. Dravet Syndrome is a rare and catastrophic form of epilepsy for which there currently is no cure.

He suffers prolonged severe seizures on a daily basis and hasn’t had a day without having several seizures in almost a year. As a result of continuous seizures and the side effects of the multiple medications, he has severe developmental delays and is constantly at risk of having intractable seizures causing permanent damage or death.

Liam will never outgrow these seizures.

Dravet Canada is a volunteer-based Canadian Charity (#850807843RR0001) dedicated to providing education, support, research and advocacy on behalf of Canadians living with Dravet Syndrome.
