The Christmas season and the Stittsville Parade of Lights is fast approaching. The Stittsville Business Association (SBA) has teamed up with the Stittsville and District Lions Club to again hang the tree lights at Village Square Park.
As with most events in Stittsville, volunteers are the crux for the success of these special occasions and the SBA and Lions Club are counting on community residents to give a hand.
About 20 trees require the installation of lights, so extra hands are definitely required. This is an ideal way for students to help out by contributing to their volunteer hours – all while being community minded. The Lions Club will provide a letter indicating the volunteer hours contributed for high school graduation purposes.
If you or your business can provide a few hours to this endeavour, the dates for installation are November 6 and November 16. Young, agile youth will certainly assist in installing the lights.
This is a fun day and a terrific way to give back to your community. Just think every time you pass the lit park – you have contributed to this project – let alone the hundreds of others who celebrate and look forward to the official lighting of the trees after the Parade of Lights.
This summer, the SBA held a golf tournament that raised $2,500 to contribute to this project for replacement bulbs, new light strings as needed, thank you signage for supporters and any other necessary expenses to ensure the Lighting of the Park is a success.

And, as the old adage goes, “Many hands make light work”.
