Volunteers urgently required for removal of debris and sandbags

The weather is predicted to be great this weekend ! Why not volunteer a few hours and help out flood victims with the removal of their sandbags and debris.

Beginning Saturday, volunteers of all abilities, age 12 and over, are urgently needed for sandbag and debris removal at flood-affected properties in West Carleton, Bay and Cumberland Wards.

Work will take place between 9 am and 7 pm on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday June 9. Work on June 8 will focus on Cumberland and West Carleton Wards. Work on June 9 will focus on Bay and West Carleton Wards.

If you are able to help, please report to one of the following Volunteer Registration Centres.

Saturday June 8

  • Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Centre
    262 Len Purcell Lane

Registration from 9 am to 4:30 pm

Shuttle option: Innovation Park and Ride located in Kanata at 1321-3043 Innovation Drive 8:30 am (first bus departs) to 4 pm (last bus leaves)

  • R.J. Kennedy Memorial Community Centre
    1115 Dunning Road
    Registration from 9 am to 4:30 pm

Sunday June 9

Organized groups who want to volunteer should call 3-1-1 ahead of time so we can help coordinate your efforts.

If you volunteer here is some information you need to know:

Volunteers will be supplied with gloves and may be required to lift up to 20 kg / 50 lbs. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing with long sleeves, pants and boots is recommended. Clothing may get dirty, wet or damaged. Volunteers may bring food; water and snacks will be provided.

To save time, print and complete your waiver form in advance and bring it with you to the Volunteer Registration Centre. Volunteers under 18 need a parent or legal guardian to sign their registration forms and must be supervised by an adult on site.

Updates about the daily need for volunteers will be made through the City’s website, ottawa.ca, and the City’s social media channels on Twitter and Facebook. You do not need to have a Twitter or Facebook account to access these pages.
