December 12, 2020 marked the inaugural presentation of the Thomas Cavanagh Business of the Year Award from the Stittsville Business Association (SBA) to Warmstone Family Dentistry.
The Cavanagh family – wife Kay, daughters Cindy, Lori and son Jeff – were honoured and humbled by the naming of this annual award in memory of Tommy. They were pleased to see Warmstone as the first recipient.
Accepting on behalf of the Warmstone Family Dentistry team was Wesley Smith, along with Joanna, Alyssa and Meagan. In his acceptance words, Wesley said, “we are so honoured and humbled to be the first to receive this Thomas Cavanagh award and are proud to serve the community of Stittsville and area”.
The award, named in honour of Thomas Cavanagh, acknowledges a SBA member company that has gone above and beyond for giving back to the local community. Tommy was known for his local good deeds throughout the years in the former Goulbourn Township and afar. As his daughter, Lori, spokesperson for the family, said in her remarks, “Dad would be so honoured to have this award in his name…his legacy continued on. Dad was always there to help people in a jam or paying for their jam!”
Warmstone set a precedent eight years ago, when Dr. Shahram Yazdani was the first in Ottawa and area to offer a free day of dentistry for those in need. A trend that continues and has now been followed by other dental groups. The Warmstone team can be found at many community events offering dental advice, along with free toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste. The business supports so many local causes and events – just too many to mention – and are always first at offering affordable dental help to those that require it! They consider their patients extended family.
Pierre Poilievre, MP for Carleton, had words of praise for Warmstone for all that they do in the community and how much it means for residents. He thanked the SBA for honouring Thomas Cavanagh in this way. Pierre presented a certificate to the Warmstone team to thank and congratulate the business on receipt of the inaugural business award.
Many of those in attendance were friends or former work colleagues of Tommy and have had the experience of personally calling on him for assistance when needed. Like Bob Mills, the former Goulbourn Township Parks and Recreation Director, who for 25 years could count on Tommy to be there when our outdoor rinks and parks needed some attention. One call and Tommy was there personally with his crew to deliver whatever was needed.
After the formal presentation, the Cavanagh family hosted a reception for those in attendance. And what reception wouldn’t be complete and meet Tommy’s approval without a dram of Irish cream for a coffee royal. A true Irishman through and through. His legacy lives on with family, friends and the Stittsville Business Association.
