West Ottawa Ladies Choir brings the past alive

(press release)

The West Ottawa Ladies Choir (WOLC) will raise their voices in recognition of the armed forces that fought bravely to keep our country free. On November 11, WOLC will join in song with residents of the Stittsville Retirement Living Residence. Tunes familiar to the audience will bring back memories and get toes stomping as the melodies of The White Cliffs of Dover, Pack up Your Troubles and Grandfather’s Clock and many more fill the halls.

One of the primary goals of the WOLC is to bring the joy of music to those that cannot attend concerts yet should not be deprived of enjoying music.

Enjoying Christmas music is a traditional way to start the season. The West Ottawa Ladies Chorus (WOLC) will perform “Christmas Around the World” Sat. Dec. 5th at 7:00 pm and again on Sun. This 40 plus ladies choir under the direction of Robert Dueck, will treat the audience to traditional Christmas songs from different countries

Songs will be sung in English but some of the numbers will include the language of origin—in Italian – ‘Dormi, Dormi, O Bel Bambin’, in Polish – ‘Lulajze, Jezuniu’, in German – ‘O Tannenbaum’. The concert will also include two French songs ‘Noel C’est L’Amour and ‘Il Est Ne’ arranged for three part ladies and performed by an ensemble of singers from with the chorus, directed by chorus member Bev Armbruster with Margo Smith as chorus accompanist. Familiar Christmas music will be performed on organ by Eliana Kurilov, who will also accompany the audience carol sing-a-long.

Sixteen guest male voices from West Ottawa Chorale will join the WOLC to bring a full rich sound to ‘Carol of the Bells’ – also known as the Ukrainian Bell Carol; ‘The Friendly Beasts’ – a 12th century French carol; and John Rutter’s ‘Star Carol’.

Now in its fourth year, the WOLC has attracted a loyal audience that looks to this performance to put them in the spirit of this joyous season.
