Have you ever wanted to find out more about the game of Ringette? Opportunity knocks as the West Ottawa Ringette Association (WORA) are holding their open house – Come Try Ringette – on Saturday, September 14th.
WORA offers programs for both recreational and competitive players. Participants come from Stittsville and neighbouring communities such as Richmond, Kanata, Carp, and Carleton Place. Ringette is a true team sport encouraging maximum participation. For example, unlike hockey, players must pass the ring across the blue line to their teammate – they cannot carry the ring from one end of the ice to the other without passing.
For Come Try Ringette all you will need to bring along is a helmet, skates and hockey gloves or winter mitts. WORA will be supplying the sticks and rings. For those who do not have a helmet, extras will be available. Also, experienced players and coaches will be available on ice to help everyone. After all the fun, you can watch an exhibition game of Ringette in action!
Best of all, the event is FREE! If you are already a West Ottawa player, why don’t you bring a friend and you can both try ringette! Please click here to register for Come Try Ringette.
The event will be held from 12:30 pm — 2:00 pm at the CARDELREC Recreation Complex-Goulbourn, 1500 Shea Road. You find all the fun on the ice service at the Katie Xu and Jack Fan Rink (Arena A). This is also the home ice for the West Ottawa Ringette teams.
The Come Try Ringette starts with registration/stick sizing at 12:30; then at 1:00 the on-ice fun begins. At 2:00, parents and children are able to ask questions of the coaches, players and other West Ottawa Ringette Association reps. Ring drop for the West Ottawa Ringette U12 Provincial exhibition game is at 2:00 pm.
Note – Registration is now open for the Bunnies program, which is a combined skating development and Ringette skills program starting up in October for ages 4-6.
Head’s Up – we wanted to add that WORA is pretty excited because they will be hosting the “A” Provincials event next March here in Stittsville. Everyone should come out not only to support the teams, but watch some action-packed Ringette. As the date approaches, Stittsville Central will share more information about this.
