NOTEBOOK: Roundup of recent anniversaries, achievements

Notebook

A few things across our news desk this week…

BUSINESS ANNIVERSARIES

We’ve heard of two local businesses with anniversaries this past week. Michael Blackie’s NeXT restaurant celebrated five years in business, while Jim’s Hi Tech Auto Repairs Inc. began its 29th year.

DESERVED HONOUR

John Curry, journalist and Catholic board trustee for Stittsville, received the Trustee Award of Merit from the Ontario Catholic Trustees’ Association last week, for “exceptional service to Catholic education.”

He has served Stittsville as a trustee since 2000 and has been a champion for special needs students, French-language programming, arts and music. As editor of the Stittsville News (and now a columnist with the Kanata-Stittsville Community Voice, since the News folded) he’s a regular fixture at local schools, telling the stories of student success.

ROBOTICS, TOO

Congratulations to some students at Sacred Heart, who were part of an Ottawa delegation to the FIRST Robotics Global Championship in Detroit last week, wrapping up a strong season of competitions.
