For 37 years, Alex Trebek brought you the quiz clues to questions on a wide range of topics. Alex was the host of Jeopardy!, followed worldwide and created by Merv Griffin, from 1984 until his death on November 8, 2020. During the 1950s and ’60s Trebek attended the University of Ottawa and considered Ottawa his home. He often returned. He donated millions to his former alma mater for which the Alex Trebek Alumni Hall has been named in his honour.

On the official Jeopardy! website, Executive Producer Mike Richards said, “Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him.” “We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues. By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”

Alex’s last week of episodes will air this week starting on January 4, 2021, in order to give his millions of fans a chance to see his final appearances.

Interim guest hosts from the Jeopardy! family will continue with Alex’s legacy. The first guest host appropriately chosen is Ken Jennings. Jennings claimed the title of Jeopardy!’s “Greatest of All Time” in an epic prime-time event in 2020. He also holds the all-time records for most consecutive games won (74) and highest winnings in regular-season play ($2,520,700).

The first week of guest-hosted shows will air the week of January 11, 2021. A long-term replacement for Trebek has yet to be named.
