The Stittsville Village Association has announced details about the annual Parade of Lights, the community Christmas parade to be held this year on November 28.
From their web site:
The SVA’s annual Parade of Lights is a community favourite, drawing thousands of spectators along the parade route. Each year, dozens of beautifully decorated community floats set the tone for Santa’s much anticipated arrival at the end of the parade. Merry makers are also encouraged to stay for the lighting of Village Square Park, and to share in some hot chocolate and cookies.
The parade will proceed south on Stittsville Main Street, from just south of Hazeldean Road to Carleton Cathcart Street. There is no formal registration, just your commitment to participate, and in lieu of entry fees, participants are asked to consider a donation to the Stittsville Food Bank.
If you’d like to participate, please get in touch with your name and organization/business (contact info below). Full parade instructions will be sent out shortly along with a liability waiver which you will be asked to complete and return (fax or email). Please let us know as soon as you can whether you will be able to enter a float (indicating length overall, including the towing vehicle, if any) and whether you will be having music on board. When decorating, please keep in mind that this is an evening Parade of Lights, meant to highlight the festive season.
We are also in need of many volunteers to stand by traffic barricades along the parade route. Adults and youth are encouraged to volunteer. It’s a great way to take in the parade (you can stay with family or friends) and students can collect community service hours. Youth under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Thank you for helping to make this annual tradition a success!
