Yes, Santa Claus is definitely coming to town and the Stittsville Village Association (SVA) is hoping to make his welcome the biggest and best ever. Santa’s parade, in the evening of Saturday, Dec. 1, will start at 6:00 pm from the OCDSB property at Stittsville Main Street and Neil Avenue and will follow the traditional route down Stittsville Main Street to Carleton Cathcart Street.

After the parade, Santa will be at Village Square Park where the trees will be lit to welcome in the holiday season, and where there will be Christmas music, hot chocolate, and cookies to help the celebration. New this year will be a Christmas Market in Village Square Park from 5 pm to 9 pm.  Vendor admission proceeds to the market will go to support future SVA events.

As in past years, the Stittsville District Lions Club will be collecting donations along the route of the Parade for the Stittsville Food Bank. Spectators may make donations of cash or items of non-perishable food. The Lions will also be preparing the lighting on the trees in the park.   New this year, volunteers from The Stocking Project will be collecting new stocking stuffer gift items for local families. Think gifts such as small toys, mittens, hats or scarves, leggings, hats, toiletries, gum, nail polish, boxed chocolates, etc.

As usual, in order to make the Parade a success, many volunteers will be needed for manning barricades, etc. Anyone who would like to help, including students needing community hours, should contact Tanya Hein at 613-686-1842 or email at stittsvillevillage@gmail.com.

Please note: Stittsville Main Street will be inaccessible from Hazeldean Road to Carleton Cathcart from 5:45 pm until the end of the parade. Abbott Street from Carbery Drive to Stittsville Main Street will also be closed.
