The meeting will be held in person at the Johnny Leroux Community Arena (second floor), 10 Warner-Colpitts Lane, Stittsville, at 7:30 pm. Tonight’s topic, Promising You a Rose Garden, is presented by Master Gardener Judith Cox.

People often avoid growing roses because they think roses are too difficult. Delicate tea roses, or roses grafted onto stock from Texas, are really difficult to grow in our colder gardens. Hardy roses do very well! They are beautiful, often highly scented, and bred specifically to survive in our climate. You can have roses in your garden and enjoy their beauty for years. Judith will discuss what roses to look for, pests and problems, and how to maintain your rose garden.

Judith Cox is a Master Gardener and, since 2020, has been president of the Stittsville Goulbourn Horticultural Society. She has always loved working with plants, and enjoys sharing that love with others. After working for 15 years as a gardener, she now works as a garden consultant during the growing season and volunteers at Master Gardener advice clinics at local farmer’s markets. During the winter Judith gives lectures on a variety of gardening subjects at local horticultural societies, writes for local magazines and publications, and has a small business selling her watercolour/pen and ink cards at www.lapisdragonarts.com. Heritage vegetables are a favourite of Judith’s, along with roses, herbs, and fairy gardens.

You are welcome to join us. If you are not a member and would like to attend free as a one-time guest, or if you would like to become a member, please send an email to sghorticultural@gmail.com. The annual membership is $15 per person or $25 per family. Wearing a mask is optional during the meeting.
