A stunning mural and a summer BBQ (photos)

You may have noticed, as you travel down Stittsville Main, the activity on the north side of Pretty Pots Flowers. Youth from Stittsville have been busily showcasing their talent as they create a mural thanks to the collaboration of Stittsville Village AssociationBirdgirl Arts, Pretty Pots Flowers & Gifts and Rona+ Stittsville-Kanata.

Through the Paint it Up! Program, the Stittsville Village Association received funding to create the mural. Plans began in May when Shasha Jimenez French of Birdgirl Arts offered her studio and artistic talent to lead the project, but youth played a large part in the design and painting. Community members also provided input with ideas and past history. The mural is entitled, Field Notes from Stittsville. The mural will be a wonderful addition to Stittsville.

Erin Zuber, Vice-President of the Stittsville Village Association, shared that “Rona really stepped up and donated all of the paint for this project. We are so fortunate to receive this donation.” The finished art piece will be unveiled on September 26th.

Across the street, at Village Square Park, MP for Carleton, Bruce Fanjoy, hosted his ‘End of Summer’ BBQ on September 5th. It was an afternoon for constituents from all corners of the riding that was filled with free food, drinks, family fun and activities for kids.

The Stittsville District Lions Club volunteered their time to grill the hotdogs and kept the line moving. Ottawa Fire Services were there and the kids just loved being a firefighter as they checked out the truck.

It was a fun afternoon for everyone who attended.
