Police urge immediate action from all road users
Following a series of recent fatal collisions, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), in an ongoing partnership with Safer Roads Ottawa, is renewing its urgent appeal to everyone who drives, walks, cycles or rides to make road safety a priority. Ottawa has now recorded 30 traffic-related fatalities in 2026, surpassing the number of fatalities recorded during all of 2025.
Please remember to:
- Slow down and obey posted speed limits.
- Never drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs or medication.
- Put distractions away and focus on the road.
- Watch carefully for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
- Give vulnerable road users the space they need to travel safely.

OC Transpo fall service improvements and data
OC Transpo has provided an update on its service during September, and the data is encouraging. Buses have been on time more often (the best rate in 13 months) and cancellations are way down. Part of this improvement is due to the reliability of the 187 new electric buses in the fleet. The numbers are still below target, and we’ve heard about some recurring issues with some Stittsville routes – but they are finally trending in a better direction.
Ridership data is also looking positive. The O-Train network had 2.73 million trips in September. The new 500-series express bus routes have also been popular, with strong early ridership data in the first month.
OC Transpo will continue making adjustments based on demand and feedback. For Stittsville residents, there will be more morning trips on Route 62 as well as a later morning express trip on Route 561 leaving from Terry Fox and Eagleson. These changes will come into effect in early November. Read more…
