Do you enjoy local small brewery craft beers? On October 19th opportunity knocks! The 2nd Annual October West Beer Fest is coming to Kanata. This festival is an independent craft beer fest – no big breweries here! And, you can bring the family dog – there is a licensed off-leash dog park!
Lon Ladell, Co-owner and Brewmaster at Big Rig Brewery, tells us why this beer fest sets itself apart from the others. “October West Beer Fest is all about bringing friends together to celebrate Beer! Three breweries — Small Pony Barrel Works, Calabogie Brewing Company and Big Rig Brewery (all located in Kanata) — have teamed up and decided to call a bunch of buddy breweries to come pour some beers.” All in all there will be 15 craft breweries, a winery and cidery (for those with a different palate) and five food vendors.
“We were amazed by the turnout in 2018, we had over 1000 attendees and we were able to donate over 200 lbs. of non-perishable food items to the Kanata Food Cupboard,” added Lon. “It showed us the sense of community in Ottawa, and how people are excited to support local business.”
It makes perfect sense that Covered Bridge Brewing Company and Brew Revolution of Stittsville are both participating in this Beer Fest. Make sure to try the refreshing beers from our hometown breweries!
October West is taking place at 105A Schneider Road (Carling Avenue and March Road) in Kanata – you can get there on OC Transpo route #63 and if you drive there is lots of free parking on-site. Sample over a dozen local breweries, grab some great eats and drinks, let the dog play and make some new friends, hang under a huge festival tent and listen to some tunes. There will be axe throwing and a farmer’s market too. Perfect for the entire family including the dog! What better way to enjoy a Saturday!
The ticket price of $10.00 includes an October West glass and one drink token (additional tokens for sale on-site). Not a beer imbiber, but want to attend – no problem. Bring a non-perishable donation for the Kanata Food Cupboard for entry.
